The Meaning of a City

Sounds and dust always blend together
A crowd of machines charging ahead, do you concur?
This ground we tread on can blush, ever so tender
Whatever it is, whenever it may occur
Feelings for a city are never amiss
I venture far, then yearn for its kiss
I rush closer, then am moved, pure and sheer,
A glittering land visited
Yet also left behind, clear
A place to dwell, a joy to find
Sometimes falling in love
With a city that has stories to unwind
A city with stories to tell In every corner that gleams
- Written on a night in May
